Gift From Alumna to Help the Fight Against Childhood Bullying

Jean AlbertiA gift from University at Buffalo alumna Jean Alberti is being used to establish a national center on the prevention of bullying abuse and school violence within UB's Graduate School of Education.

Jean, who is a clinical and educational psychologist based in Chicago and a former elementary school teacher, has committed to making the largest gift in the history of the Graduate School of Education. The gift will establish the Jean M. Alberti Center for the Prevention of Bullying Abuse and School Violence, which will research, identify and disseminate a variety of interventions that share a common goal to prevent this type of abuse.

"We need to change the way that we look at this problem to reflect the message that bullying is child abuse by children," Jean says.

Mary Gresham, dean of UB's Graduate School of Education, says Jean's "incredibly generous gift" will support and encourage efforts to end bullying abuse, "which is indeed child abuse, as perpetrated by other children."
