Giving UB the Recognition It Deserves

The late Edmond J. Gicewicz, MD ’56, BA ’52, and his wife, Connie Gicewicz, have made an indelible impact on the lives of UB students.

The Gicewiczs spent more than six decades supporting the University at Buffalo. Affectionately known as “Doc,” Gicewicz served on the University at Buffalo Council, was past president of the UB Alumni Association and served as the football team physician for nearly three decades.

They were generous donors to the University at Buffalo in a number of areas, particularly UB athletics. Doc was a three-sport athlete, and Connie was a constant supporter—cheering on the Bulls in the University at Buffalo Stadium and Alumni Arena. In 2007, the University at Buffalo Athletics Hall of Fame was named after the Gicewiczs.

To recognize and share their devotion to Doc’s alma mater, the couple established a charitable gift annuity through the University at Buffalo—a way to give to UB and get dependable income for life—which will make a difference in students’ lives by preparing them for successful futures.

At the time they created the gift, Doc said, “Education, educators and sports have been the major factors in enabling us to make this gift. We consider this ‘payback’ so that others may enjoy the same opportunities that were presented to us.”
